A little about me

Tania Zountsa, a Greek saxophonist, composer, and improviser based in the Netherlands, embarked on her musical journey at the age of 9 with the guitar, displaying an early talent for song creation and an innate inclination toward improvisation. She later pursued classical double bass studies at the State Conservatory of Greece for three years while simultaneously delving into saxophone lessons, instantly connecting with the instrument’s sound and its intimate relationship with breath. This led her to Brussels for private studies and eventually to the Netherlands to further her education.

Returning to Greece for a period, Tania immersed herself in performances with various bands while continuing her studies at the Contemporary Conservatory of Thessaloniki. Since 2015, she has resided in the Netherlands, completing her Bachelor’s in Jazz & Pop Saxophone at HKU Conservatory and is currently concluding her Master’s degree. In 2021, she explored Music Therapy, deeply influenced by its therapeutic aspects in music and art.

With a profound interest in ancient cultures and rituals, Tania embarked on research concerning the ancient Greek music system. Her performances seamlessly blend contemporary melodies with echoes of ancient Greek musical heritage. Her compositions display a mosaic of tonal colors and intricate rhythms, reflecting her profound comprehension of both traditional and avant-garde musical forms.

Projects

Tania has been an active participant in numerous bands and projects across Europe, including the Netherlands, Greece, and Finland. She leads the ensemble Singularity Point, releasing her debut album “AWAKE” in 2022, and is currently preparing for the release of her second album. Her primary focus revolves around projects generating original material, often centered on improvisation. In 2022, she received the Norma fund for her projects, MARUSKES and Lila Duo.

Tania also actively engages in collaborations with diverse multidisciplinary artists, exploring the interplay between music and dance, as well as the fusion of music with visual arts. Currently, she continues her research in these realms while actively participating in various ongoing projects.
